Details: The BP Mad Dog 2 Project is a greenfield development project that added the Argos offshore Floating Production Unit (FPU) to the Mad Dog field, which is located in the Green Canyon area of the Gulf of Mexico. As part of this overall project, the Argos platform would require a subsea fiber optic branch leg connecting it to the existing GoM Fiber Optic Network for all of its voice and data communications requirements. The Project Group Consulting LLC provided personnel to support this project which culminated in the installation of over 14 km of fiber optic cable on the seafloor from the BP Mad Dog 2 Drill Center DC-1 to a pre-installed Branching Unit tie-in point located approximately 8 km North of the BP Argos deepwater oil & gas FPU platform.
The Optical Flying Lead (OFL) will be installed in early 2022 connecting the fiber branch leg to the DC-1 umbilical, thereby completing the connectivity between the Argos platform and the Fiber Network. providing reliable high-speed data and communications capability to the facility.
